January 20, 1945 - Pub Night

From the Operations Record Book:

30 aircraft ordered to stand by for operations, briefing fixed for 14.45 hours, but at approximately 13.00 hours it was put back to 18.15 hours. At approx. 16.55 hours the operations were cancelled. No flying training was carried out during the day since all available aircraft were bombed up ready for action. The services of some of the spare crews were used in sawing up trees blown down during yesterday's and the day before yesterday's gale. The logs will be useful fuel in the Officers' and Sergeants' Messes besides providing good physical exercise for the personnel behind the axe and saw.

The local population welcomed 550 Squadron members, who frequented the two nearest pubs:

The Cross Keys was slated for demolition in 2015, but the Black Bull is still operating.
