January 30, 1945 - Aviation Artist Piotr Forkasiewicz

From the Operations Record Book:

The Squadron was stood down from operations, presumably towing to low cloud and very poor visibility. No flying training possible and the day was again devoted to ground training such as link training, lectures by Specialist Officers and snow shoveling. Snow fell during the night in the high wind which caused waist deep snow drifts. The transport section were unable to move any of their vehicles off the Station until snow ploughs and bulldozers had been to work. Difficulty was also experienced by both officers and other ranks in emerging from their sleeping huts and making their way to breakfast through the snow drifts, which varied from knee to thigh deep in places. Night flying training was cancelled owing to fog and low cloud. The snow is turning wet, icicles on buildings are disappearing and it would seem that a thaw is possible.
