January 31, 1945 - Out Of Hospital Off On Leave

From the Operations Record Book:

The Squadron was called up to supply 29 aircraft and crews for operations. The weather prevailing in this area at the time of recording this is foggy with low cloud and visibility approximately 300 yards. Unless there is a considerable improvement in the weather the intended operations will no doubt be cancelled. With a slow thaw the roads and ground are treacherous and personnel find it difficult to get about without a fall or two. As was expected the intended operation was cancelled owing to widespread fog and low cloud. No flying of any sort was possible. The snow is rapidly disappearing and rubber boots are very necessary. During this month the Squadron was only able to operate on six occasions.

Harris finally leaves the hospital where he had been recovering from scalding water burns sustained on January 18th and the crew went straight into a six-day leave.  Harris went to visit his parents in Newark, England while the rest of the crew scattered over England, Scotland and Wales. Yemen had a much anticipated visit his fiance in Mansfield, Nicol went to visit relatives in Scotland (where he sprained an ankle) and Kelleher visited a girlfriend in Cardiff, Wales.
